About Us
My name is Beth Johanson, and I am a Silky Terrier breeder, and exhibitor
at AKC conformation events (dog shows) under the "Ja-Ray" prefix. I am a member of the St. Joseph Kennel Club, and Silky
Terrier Club of America. My focus, involvement, and dedication is with Silky Terriers.
All of my dogs where raised by me since they were puppies, and are true
extensions of my family. I do not have children of my own, so my dogs are my furkids. My mom even refers
to them as her "granddogs". They are not "kennel dogs". My home is their home. They spend their days lounging
around the house with me, or playing in their securely fenced backyard. We also enjoy going camping. Nobody is
left at home. All of my dogs go with me (including puppies if I have any at that time). We love to go on hikes,
and to walk around the campground where my dogs love to soak up all of the attention they get from fellow campers.
I am not a large scale breeder, but a hobby show breeder. I keep
my number of adults to a reasonable number, so that I am allowed the opportunity to spend quality time with each of them,
and stay active in the show circuit. I breed on a very limited basis. All of my breedings are carefully
planned. I breed for beauty, temperament, and health, and strive to produce dogs that are as close to the AKC Silky
Terrier breed standard as possible. All of the adults that I use in my breeding program have been tested, and cleared
for Patellar Luxation, and PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy- CERF test, retest before every breeding) .
My puppies are raised in my home where they receive love and attention daily. This enables me to identify the individual
personalities of each puppy, and to monitor their progress closely. At about 8 and 12 weeks of age every puppy undergoes
a thorough evaluation where I decide what puppies to hold back, or place in "pet" homes under a spay/neuter contract. Each puppy I adopt out will come with a one year Health Guarantee. I strongly encourage responsible pet ownership, and want all of my puppies to grow up to
be well socialized, mannerly dogs, so as an incentive I also offer a monitary refund to each new owner who's puppy successfully
completes the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program www.akc.org/starpuppy/, puppy kindergarten, or basic obedience training (please see my Purchase Agreement for details). These
classes are an excellent source for early socialization, and make for a wonderful, rewarding opportunity to bond with your
puppy!
